NEW DELHI: The government has appointed airline industry veteran Aloke Singh as CEO of divestment-bound Air India Express. Singh was Air India\u2019s executive director (strategy and planning) for over a decade till 2014 when he quit the Maharaja to join Oman Air in Muscat. Singh has been appointed on contractual basis for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, says the order issued by the aviation ministry on Thursday.
\nThe ministry also appointed Deepak Khullar as the CEO of AI subsidiary Hotel Corporation of India (HCI) which runs Centaur hotels in Delhi and Srinagar. While AI Express fate will be decided by the outcome of its ongoing divestment process, the government had last year allowed HCI\u2019s 1982-era Centaur at Delhi Airport till March 31, 2032, instead of being demolished immediately to make way for airport expansion.
\nThe dilapidated property requires major renovation and maintenance to be used for that long. It has 378 rooms, of which almost half are not in a condition to be used due to maintenance issues like seepage and remain locked. Of the remaining, about 100 rooms remain occupied on an average by Air India staff travelling on duty and passengers of AI’s delayed flights, say airline sources.
