MUMBAI: An organization of women lawyers practicing in courts across Mumbai has written to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to condone the payment of electricity bills by the legal fraternity for the months of April to August 2020, or till such time the normal functioning of the Courts resumes.
\nThe letter dated July 29, points to the lack of earnings and the resultant financial difficulty that a majority of the bar finds itself in. It thus seeks an indulgence, only this time for themselves and from the CM, not a chief justice. The letter signed by convenor of \u2018Interactive Sessions of Lady Lawyers\u2019 Advocate Anita Castellino and member advocates Sharmila Deshmukh, Sonal, Mamta Sadh and Pallavi Marathe says the bills will be paid once lawyers are \u201cable to restart livelihoods\u2019\u2019. It also says that in case of those who have managed to pay the same the amount be adjusted against future payments.
