NEW DELHI: Mumbai\u2019s historic Bombay Flying Club \u2014 from where the father of Indian aviation J R D Tata received India\u2019s first pilot licence in February 1929 \u2014 has become the country\u2019s first DGCA-approved drone training school. Located in Juhu Aerodrome, the Club had about two months back sought the regulator\u2019s approval for conducting pilot training using remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) systems. The aviation ministry and DGCA have given a conditional approval for the same.
\nThe conditions include getting all required security clearances from various agencies like home and defence ministries, local authorities and Airports Authority of India. \u201cThe Bombay Flying Club shall ensure that hazardous material are not carried in the RPA under any circumstances\u2026 (Drone) shall not be operated near the airport\u2026. Club shall ensure safety, security and privacy public,\u201d the conditions state.
\nThe 1928-founded Bombay Flying Club has played a critical role in evolution of Indian aviation. J R D Tata was the first to obtain a pilot licence from here in February 1929. \u201cThe Bombay Flying Club has unique distinction of being the only flying club in the world, which under took the cross-country international flight from Bombay to London and back with four tiger Moths participating in it, in 1930s,\u201d the Club\u2019s website says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
