NEW DELHI: Amid the relentless heat and humidity, Delhi clocked the season’s highest peak power demand of 6,214MW at 3.27pm on Friday, breaking Thursday’s record of 6,193MW. The capital has been witnessing a consistent rise in peak power demand, which was 5,985MW on Wednesday.
\nAt 2,690MW, BSES Rajdhani saw the highest demand, followed by north Delhi where Tata Power-DDL supplied 1,814MW. In east Delhi, BSES Yamuna met the peak power demand of 1,379MW.
\nBSES said Delhi’s peak demand increased by over 3% within 24 hours and by 50% since the easing of lockdown restrictions on May 18. “Because of the weather and the lockdown, the peak power demand had been a little muted. But it has seen a steady increase for the past few days on account of very high temperature,” it added. Since June 1, when 3,807MW was supplied, peak power demand has increased by over 62%.
\nDelhi has been witnessing a maximum temperature of around 45 degrees Celsius for the past few days, apart from high humidity levels, which has led to a rise in power demand.
