NEW DELHI: At 5,534MW, Delhi recorded the season’s highest peak power demand pipping the previous high of 5,464MW on May 26.
\nWhile discoms BSES Rajdhani and Yamuna met the peak demand of 2,495MW and 1,282MW, respectively, Tata Power-DDL supplied 1,620MW. “Since the easing of restrictions on May 18, Delhi’s peak power demand has increased by over 34%. If we compare the peak power demand of April with May, it increased by over 64%,” a power official said. In April, the peak demand was 3,362MW.
\nThe official added that the peak power demand might surpass last year’s 7,409MW in July. This month it is likely to touch 7,380MW, while in July it is expected to go above 7,500MW.
\nIn 2002, the peak power demand was 2,879MW. It increased by over 250% till 2019 when demand touched an all-time high of 7,409MW on July 2.
\n“We have formed up arrangements to source adequate electricity to meet the demand of over 44 lakh consumers. These arrangements include long-term PPAs and banking arrangements with other states.
