NEW DELHI: With the heatwave conditions sending the mercury up over the past few days, Delhi\u2019s peak power demand clocked 5,268MW, the season\u2019s highest, on Sunday night.
\nIt was even marginally higher than the peak demand \u2014 5,094MW \u2014 recorded on May 24 last year. This is the first time this month that Delhi\u2019s peak power demand crossed last year\u2019s peak on any given day. The peak demand last May was 6,461MW on May 31.
\nTwo BSES discoms, BRPL and BYPL, and Tata Power-DDL successfully met the peak demand of 2,448MW, 1,227MW and 1,493MW, respectively, on Sunday night.
\nFor the past two months, the demand saw a sharp fall as almost all commercial, industrial and office establishments were shut due to the lockdown. As the restrictions are being eased gradually, Delhi is expected to surpass the last year\u2019s peak of 7,409MW by July.
