MUMBAI: Low cost carrier Go Air, which suspended its international operations on Tuesday, has begun issuing termination letters to some of its employees who are on contract, said sources. These would be the first lot of job losses in the Indian airline industry citing the impact of COVID-19 on revenues.
\nOne of the letters sent by the airline to an employee on March 16 says, “we are unable to operate on the scale we presently were and have been forced to scale down the operations to be able to sustain this decline\u2026. In view of the above, we are constrained to terminate your contract effective March 17 … your full and final settlement would be done in due course.” The said employee had joined GoAir in August last year.
\nA statement from GoAir is awaited.
\nOn Tuesday, GoAir announced suspension of its international operations till April 15. “GoAir has initiated a short term rotational leave without pay program that will not only help the company counter the short term reduction in capacity, but will also ensure that a cross section of our employees stay away from the workplace for a month at a time to ensure business continuity,” the airline said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
