Russian oil output edged up 0.3 per cent to 10.68 million barrels per day (bpd) in August compared with the month before, Energy Ministry data showed on Wednesday, after Gazprom and smaller producers increased output. <\/p>\n
Russia, one of the world’s largest crude producers, has been pumping oil at a post-Soviet record of around 10.7 million bpd this year, thanks to new oil fields coming on stream and the use of modern technologies on existing fields. <\/p>\n
In tonnes, output reached 45.17 million in August versus 45.03 million in July. <\/p>\n
So-called small producers, mostly private, increased their output in August by 0.9 per cent to 4.87 million tonnes, while Gazprom’s output of oil, mostly light, such as condensate, jumped by 11 per cent to 1.32 million tonnes. <\/p>\n
Production at Bashneft, whose upstream assets are located in the Urals mountains region, rose by 1 per cent to 1.73 million tonnes. <\/p>\n
Output at Rosneft, the world’s top listed oil producer, remained flat, while No.2-ranked Lukoil saw output decline by 0.1 per cent. <\/p>\n
Moscow has been in discussions with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other key producers about measures to stabilise oil prices, which have almost halved throughout the year to around just $50 per barrel. <\/p>\n
So far, neither Russia nor OPEC has been willing to cut output to prop up prices. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro will discuss possible steps to stabilise the market during a visit to China this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
