The country\u2019s installed capacity has risen sixfold to nearly 83 gigawatts (1 GW = 1,000 MW). And in the past 5 years, solar power, which is set to become bigger than wind energy within renewables, has seen its capacity grow around 12 times to over 31 GW, according to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).<\/p>\n<p>So for the majority of Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s first term, his government\u2019s target of having 175 GW of installed clean energy capacity by March 2022 did not seem unrealistic.
