NEW DELHI: North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday approved the proposal for installation of solar panels in over 200 schools run by it.
\nThe decision was passed by the standing committee of the civic body on Thursday. Chairman Jai Prakash said that the project would help save energy as well as reduce expenditure.
\n\u201cSolar panels of 5kW each will be installed in all schools run by the corporation. Each panel will cost Rs 35 lakh, and Rs 7 crore will be invested on the entire project. A concessionaire will be responsible for the maintenance of the panels for four years and its warranty for one year,\u201d said Prakash.
\nPrakash said the Centre would provide the funds for the panels. \u201cWe had planned for the project but were unable to go through with it due to paucity of funds. If schools can generate their own electricity, then we will be able to save Rs 20-25 lakh per month on the electricity bills,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
