Power ministry sources said that \u201cthese receivables of discoms are almost one and a half times their outstanding payables to generating companies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Discoms\u2019 dues to power producers stood at `38,023 crore at the end of FY19, up 59.8% from a year earlier, and 65% of these were \u201cover-dues\u201d with a payment default of 60 days or more.<\/p>\n<p>According to an internal power ministry note reviewed by FE, the central government\u2019s plan to reduce the exposure of discoms from irregular payments include \u201cinstallation of solar panels, and installation of prepaid meters on government buildings progressively\u201d.
