{"id":26760,"date":"2015-07-31T12:00:29","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T12:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infralive.com\/web\/?p=26760"},"modified":"2015-07-31T12:00:29","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T12:00:29","slug":"dgca-sacks-air-india-air-safety-chief-over-runway-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infralive.com\/web\/dgca-sacks-air-india-air-safety-chief-over-runway-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"DGCA sacks Air India air safety chief over runway incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday sacked Air India&#8217;s chief of air safety Captain AS Soman for not maintaining flight monitoring data, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Soman was appointed Air India&#8217;s air safety chief in January this year.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after an runway incident involving Air India&#8217;s Bangalore-Hyderabad flight on June 28, when the pilot touched down but immediately took off again without stopping. <\/p>\n<p>According to DGCA&#8217;s inquiry, the pilot had reported bad weather but when the agency asked for the data it was found that no surveillance had been done for the flight.<\/p>\n<p>DGCA had issued a show cause notice to the airline&#8217;s chief of air safety Captain AS Soman based on news reports of the incident, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u201chis response was found unsatisfactory as he had put the blame on the engineering department,\u201d sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Air safety chief of an airline is responsible for maintaining this data.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of this, the DGCA was not able to conduct its investigation as no data furnished by the airline.<\/p>\n<p>According to the norms, a scheduled airline has to monitor data for every flight, which has to be preserved for six months.<\/p>\n<p>After this incident, the DGCA had decided to conduct surprise checks of all airlines to make sure they are fully monitoring flight data.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday sacked Air India&#8217;s chief of air safety Captain AS Soman for not maintaining flight monitoring data, sources said.
