Power generation from the second unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) has been suspended to take up maintenance work, a KKNPP official said Saturday.<\/p>\n
“Power generation at Unit-II has not been stopped due to any valve breakdown as stated in the news. This was a planned outage,” KKNPP Senior Manager, HR-Press Relations, J Devaprakash said. <\/p>\n
The official was responding to reports that appeared in a section of media about unit II being shut due to a “valve malfunction”.<\/p>\n
In a press release, he said the maintenance work was expected to be completed in a “couple of days.” <\/p>\n
On the status of Unit-I, he said, the scientists have undertaken refuelling work and the annual maintenance work was nearing completion.<\/p>\n
“After carrying out all the mandatory tests, the unit will be made functional soon,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Unit-I of the project commenced commercial operation on December 31, 2014 while the second on March 31, 2017.<\/p>\n
Since Unit I commenced operation it has generated 17,782 MUs and Unit II at 4,645 MUs.<\/p>\n
