Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee left for New Delhi on Sunday to face questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged coal smuggling case, on Monday. However, before boarding the flight to the national capital, Abhishek, who also happens to be the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, lashed out at the BJP-led Centre, accusing it of pursuing political vendetta against Opposition leaders and using the central agencies against them.
Speaking to reporters outside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport, Banerjee, a Lok Sabha MP from the Diamond Harbour constituency of West Bengal, said, “I stand by what I said before the Assembly polls that if anyone comes up with evidence of my involvement in any financial scam then I will happily hang myself in public.
