State-owned SECL on Sunday said it has despatched 100 million tonnes of coal in record time till October 28 this fiscal. About 80 per cent of the despatch supply has been made to the power sector, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) said in a statement.
“SECL has achieved 100 million tonnes (MT) of coal dispatch for FY23-24. This is the fastest 100 MT coal dispatch achieved by the company since its inception,” the statement added.
SECL had dispatched around 85 MT of coal during April 1-October 28 in the preceding 2022-23 fiscal.
“This is a significant development keeping in mind the upcoming festive season, when the power demand is set to peak. And this feat of the company will help strengthen the supply of coal for power generation in power plants,” SECL said.
The company’s mega projects Gevra, Dipka, and Kusmunda located in the Korba district have contributed significantly to the total dispatch of 100 million tonnes of coal with 30.3 MT, 19.1 MT and 25.1 coal supply, respectively.
Based in Bilaspur, SECL, with 67 blocks, is among the top three coal-producing subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (CIL) under the Ministry of Coal. In FY23, CIL’s output was 703.21 MT out of which SECL’s contribution was 167 MT.
SECL has set a 197 MT coal production target for the current financial year.
