In a recent development, the proposed Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) is slated to establish crucial connections between the upcoming Noida Airport in Jewar and key cities such as Meerut, Modinagar, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida West. The Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, chaired a meeting where the potential linkage of the RRTS with the Indira Gandhi International Airport was deliberated, a TOI report stated.
The gathering, attended by representatives from NCR Transport Corporation, Northern Railway, North Central Railway, NHAI, and the state government, explored the feasibility of this proposed extension. An official at the meeting shared that the modalities of the proposal are currently under consideration, with directives to consult the Centre on its viability.
Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh government approved a rapid rail corridor that will connect the Noida International Airport (NIA) with Delhi and other areas of the National Capital Region (NCR). The proposed route will extend from the Ghaziabad rapid rail station on the Delhi-Meerut line. The approved proposal outlines a 72.3km rapid rail corridor to the NIA, which is expected to be completed by 2041. The Noida airport is set to commence operations by the end of 2024.
Highlighting the potential travel times, the official disclosed, “The distance between both airports could be covered within 80 minutes. Meanwhile, it would take about 50 minutes to travel to the Noida airport from Ghaziabad, 70 minutes from the Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi, and 85 minutes from Meerut.”
Moreover, the proposed alignment between Noida Airport and Ghaziabad is envisioned to have 25 stations, connecting with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Blue line in Noida and the Aqua line. As discussions continue, the fate of this extension rests on further consultations and considerations of its practicality.
Quoting the official, “The proposed alignment between Noida Airport and Ghaziabad could have 25 stations and will also be connected with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Blue line in Noida and the Aqua line.”
