Railways suspends Jupiter-Kovis JV for faking localisation

Indian Railways has uncovered an instance of falsifying localisation in a brake disc tender floated by Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Raebareli. According to officials aware of the move, JWL Kovis, a joint venture of Jupiter Wagons and Slovenia headquartered Kovis, imported brake disc castings despite claiming 90% local content.

JWL Kovis has now been debarred by the Railway Board for six months since it had submitted false certificates affirming compliance. The deviation was discovered by Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow, which found the brake disc casting was not manufactured in Jabalpur, but imported from Slovenia.
