KOLKATA: The Kolkata airport authorities have phased out a number of diesel-powered vehicles in its operational areas and replaced them with electric ones. They are also operating solar-powered belt loaders after the Airports Council International accredited the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata airport) with level 2 plus reduction certification in the Asia Pacific and Middle East region.
The move is aimed at making the airport more carbon compliant and also making other stakeholders reduce their carbon footprint.
“We have been progressing at a steady pace. We have achieved level 2 plus and our goal is to reach level four plus that Delhi and Mumbai airports have achieved. This will require the participation of all stakeholders at the airport for a greener operation,” said a senior airport official.
