The State Government will write to the Centre proposing to name the greenfield airport at Shivamogga after veteran BJP leader and former CM BS Yediyurappa.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the modern airport on February 27.
Shivamogga is the fastest growing city in Karnataka after Bengaluru, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday.
