NEW DELHI: The road transport ministry has told state and UT governments not to force operators of vehicles under tourist permit or contract carriage to deploy conductors with valid licence. The move will bring huge relief to the operators from harassment.
The ministry issued the communication to the states and UTs citing a provision in the Central Motor Vehicle Act stating that a conductor is not mandatory for tourist vehicles and contract carriage vehicles.
“It is pertinent to mention that the conductor is mainly required for collecting fares from passengers, regulating their entrance and exit,” the letter said.
