KOLKATA: The state government on Wednesday handed over the Chingrighata crossing to RVNL, which will barricade a portion of the busy intersection on E M Bypass for the construction of Pier 318 of the New Garia-Airport Metro.
After a wait of more than five years, Kolkata Police’s traffic department finally issued the much-awaited no-objection certificate (NOC) to RVNL and stressed the need to put up proper signage for vehicles while barricading the crossing. Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Goyal and senior Kolkata Traffic Police officers inspected the site on Wednesday morning, moments before the handover.
The deadline for the diversion is not yet decided. While Metro says it needs 45 days, police hope RVNL will finish a majority portion of the work in the 30 days-when schools will remain shut for the summer break-as the traffic load will be less during that time. A final order by Lalbazar is expected by midnight.
