BENGALURU: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) showed a 23.8% year-on-year growth in passenger traffic in 2018-19. A record 33.3 million passengers used the airport, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) officials said on Monday.
In all, 240,251 landings and takeoffs were recorded during the period, with 750 landings and takeoffs being the highest (January 11, 2019). The maximum passengers handled in one day was 109,174 — on January 20, 2019. In 2017-18, KIA handled 26.9 million flyers.
BIAL officials said domestic traffic continued to be the main growth driver in 2018-19 when 28.8 million domestic passengers used the airport — a 24.8% growth when compared to the previous fiscal, which saw 23.09 million domestic passengers. As for international passengers, 4.48 million travelled to and from global destinations in 2018-19, registering a growth of 17.5% over 2017-18 when the total number stood at 3.81 million.
