UPERC turns down Bajaj’s plea

On July 8, 2017, the BJP led Uttar Pradesh government (GoUP) had cancelled the power purchase agreements (PPAs) that the erstwhile state governments had entered into at high tariff levels, which have become unviable for the state discoms. These included 450 MW PPAs that the Mayawati led SP government had signed with the Bajaj Energy, an associate company of Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, in 2010 & 2011, on cost plus basis through MoU route without any tender.
