Over a hundred passengers travelling from Kuwait to Ahmedabad were in for a jolt when their checked-in baggage did not arrive and they had to leave for home without their baggage. The incident happened last Sunday. A similar incident happened a month ago when a passenger received his bag a week later.
With start of the peak tourist season in Gujarat, passengers arriving in the country have been facing issues. Harish Chandra, 48, who came from Kuwait to attend weddings in Banswara, his native place in Rajasthan, was disappointed after both his checked in baggage did not arrive. After about a two-hour struggle he submitted a claim form to the airline before heading home, his son told Mirror.
Chandra’s son Mayur Madhwani recalled the ordeal both he and his father faced on their trips to Ahmedabad by Indigo’s recently started Kuwait- Ahmedabad flight. “My father reached the city on December 2, but both his bags did not arrive at the airport. Since he was on his way to our native place in Banswara, he was carrying a few gifts for relatives. Currently he is at home without proper clothes as he had just a small hand baggage with him.”
Mayur also shared, “My father was not the only one. About 140 passengers on the same flight had not received their checked-in bags when they reached their destination.” Mayur too had faced a similar predicament on an earlier flight by the same airline. Mayur, an IT professional in Kuwait, had come home ahead of Diwali.
“I came to Ahmedabad on November 2, but my bag arrived on November 10. I was here to celebrate Diwali with family and I was returning on November 12, so receiving the bag two days before my departure was not of much use to me,” he said. Meanwhile, Indigo issued a statement, “Unfortunately due to payload limitations at times we have to leave some baggage behind and carry it on a later flight. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers.”
Airline sources confirmed that around 80 passengers did not receive their bags on Chandra’s flight. They also confirmed that the bags had reached Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday evening and passengers will receive them by late evening on the same day.
