IndiGo to add 14 new flights from next month

IndiGo will add over a dozen new flights to its network from next month as the budget carrier continues spreading its wings in the rapidly growing domestic market, which logged a healthy 25 per cent growth in March over the corresponding period of 2015.

The Gurugram-headquartered budget carrier will commence 14 new flights, among which are those flying from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad, Kolkata to Hyderabad, Bengaluru to Jaipur and Chennai to Kochi from May 1, IndiGo said in a release today.

Besides, it will connect Kochi to Chennai and Jaipur to Bengaluru and also scale up frequencies from Delhi to Srinagar and Jaipur, the release said.

These new flights include the third non-stop daily flight between Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Jaipur and Chennai and Kochi besides the fourth non-stop daily flight between Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Effective from May 2, IndiGo will introduce the third non-stop daily flight between Kochi and Chennai and Jaipur-Bengaluru, the airline said.

From May 6, it will roll out the third non-stop daily flight between Delhi and Jaipur, the fifth non-stop daily flight between Srinagar and Delhi and the sixth non-stop daily flight between Delhi and Srinagar, it said.

The launch of these 14 flights will take the total number of flights operated by the airline to 759, it added.

“We are delighted to announce additional frequencies between these cities. The increased flow of traffic to and from these cities gave us a great opportunity to offer passengers more chances to experience hassle-free and on-time performance,” IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh said.

With 759 flights connecting 40 destinations, these new flights will further consolidate IndiGo’s position as the fastest growing airline in India, the airline said.

Domestic air passenger traffic increased by 25.25 per cent to 78.72 lakh fliers in March 2016 over the year-ago period, when all Indian carriers ferried 62.85 lakh fliers, according to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data released last week.

As per the data, IndiGo’s market share stood at 38.4 per cent in March.
