With an eye on Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to conclude agriculture and energy deals with Argentina when he hosts President Mauricio Macri on a state visit between February 17 and 19.
India hopes to benefit from Argentine agriculture sector, a strong pillar of local economy, besides tapping natural gas deposits in the Latin American country. Argentina has the world’s second highest shale gas reserves after the USA. The Indo-Argentine agriculture deal could contribute to food security in India.
Further, the two sides are expected to conclude a slew of deals in a variety of sectors including defence and high-tech, according to informed sources. ET has learnt that that the two sides are planning to conclude around 10 pacts during the visit taking forward momentum in ties since Modi’s trip to Buenos Aires last November for the G-20 Summit.
