Air India to operate flights with all-women crew to celebrate International Women’s Day

Air India will be operating flights with all-women cockpit and cabin crew as part of its celebrations to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018, the airline said.

“The national carrier has planned several flights on its domestic and international sectors operated only by its women employees to salute woman power. Air India will fly these all-women crew flights to all the USA cities it operates to – San Francisco, New York, Newark, Chicago and Washington DC – besides destinations like Milan, Frankfurt and Singapore. A few destinations in the domestic sector will also see the airline operating with an all-women crew,” said a release from the airline.

A number of women-related events will also be organised by Air India throughout its network to mark the occasion – reiterating the airline’s constant endeavour to encourage women to have an equal standing in every sphere of the airline’s activities, the airline said.

The airline further said that a unique feature of Air India’s all-woman crew flights is that most of the operations from Cockpit crew to Cabin crew, Check-In staff, Doctor, commercial staff, ground operators to technicians, engineers, flight dispatchers, and even safety and quality auditors are all mostly women.

“In fact, the person behind the entire scheduling of these all-women crew flights is also a woman – Amrita Sharan, Executive Director Integration and Industrial Relations and in charge of Crew Management,” the airline added.
