2 Indigo planes came face to face over Bangalore airspace

Two IndiGo planes came dangerously close to each other over Bengaluru airspace on Tuesday triggering collision avoidance alarm on both the aircraft.

On July 10, 6E 779 and 6E 6505 came face to face when 6E 779 was at 27300 feet and 6505 was at 27500 feet.

While 6E779 was flying between Coimbatore and Hyderabad, and 6E 6505 was flying between Bengaluru and Cochin.

The accident happened, when Air Traffic Control asked 6E 779 to climb to 36,000 feet and asked 6E 6505 to climb to 28000 feet.

“The aircraft were hardly 4 miles from each other while the Vertical separation was just 200 feet triggering Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) on both the aircraft,” said a source in the know.

Confirming the incident IndiGo said that they have reported the incident to the regulator.

“The TCAS-Resolution Advisory system was triggered on two of our aircraft operating Coimbatore-Hyderabad and Bangalore-Cochin routes respectively on July 10, 2018. Following normal procedure this has been reported to the regulator,” IndiGo said in a statement.
